Summer-Winter Social Skills Group: Waxahachie, Texas
General Information
Social skills training is an evidence based practice focused on assisting individuals in engaging in a social world. This training is focused on a group environment where lessons can be matched with immediate opportunities for practice. Most social skills groups include instruction on basic concepts, role-playing, practice, or feedback to help learners acquire and practice communication, play, or social skills to promote positive interactions with peers. While much of the literature focusing on social skills groups centers around individuals with ASD, benefits of these groups can be found for many individuals struggling with social challenges, regardless of diagnosis.
The Galliant Way
At Galliant we recognize that each individual’s comfort level with other people varies. With that in mind, we individualize goals within the group in order to balance individual needs while focusing on supporting each learner’s ability to engage in a social world. In order to do this effectively, we take steps to have well matched peer groups and supportive curriculum including
Starting with assessment. Prior to completing registration parents/guardians will complete an intake form that includes questions focused on multiple aspects of their child including social challenges and achievements, likes and dislikes, and overall engagement strategies. This allows us to find other individuals that are seeking assistance in a similar way.
Connecting with the family. After completing the intake form a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will schedule a time to virtually meet with the parent individually or with their child. This provides an opportunity for families to learn more about our program while we also learn more about your goals.
Developing both group and individualized goals. Each group session has an overarching goal for the group to accomplish. In addition to this, each individual will have observable and measurable goals that are tracked throughout the 5 weeks. This assists in ensuring the effectiveness of the program while also centering curriculum around individual needs.
Curated curriculums to meet needs. Curriculum for each group is based in evidence -based practices for social skills training. The individual components including goals and themes are individualized however to meet the needs and interests of the group. This provides an opportunity to use research based methodologies in an individually effective manner.
